The Remarkably Featureless High Resolution X - ray Spectrum of Mrk 478 Herman
An observation of Mrk 478 using the Chandra Low Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer is presented. The source exhibited 30-40% flux variations on timescales of ∼ 10 s together with a slow decline in the spectral softness over the full 80 ks observation. The 0.15–3.0 keV spectrum is well fitted by a single power law with photon index Γ = 2.91± 0.03. Combined with high energy data from BeppoS...
متن کاملX-ray flaring activity of Markarian 421
We report results from a systematic search for X-ray flares from Mrk 421, using archival data from the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) satellite. The flares are clearly seen over a wide range of timescales. The quasicontinuous coverage of the source with the All-SkyMonitor (ASM) reveals frequent occurrence of major flares that last for months. On a few occasions, the source was intensively m...
متن کاملThe First High Resolution X-ray Spectrum of Cyg X-1: Soft X-ray Ionization and Absorption
We observed the black hole candidate Cyg X-1 for 15 ks with the High-Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer aboard the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The source was observed during a period of intense flaring activity, so it was about a factor of 2.5 brighter than usual, with a 0.5-10 keV (1-24 Å ) luminosity of 1.6×1037 erg s−1 (at a distance of 2.5 kpc). The spectrum of the source shows promine...
متن کاملThe effect of focal spot size on the spatial resolution of variable resolution X-ray CT scanner
Background: A variable resolution X-ray (VRX) CT scanner provides a great increase in the spatial resolution. In VRX CT scanners, the spatial resolution of the system and its field of view (FOV) can be changed according to the object size. One of the main factors that limit the spatial resolution of VRX CT scanner is the effect of the X-ray focal spot. Materials and Methods: A theoreti...
